Beginning in early 2020, I decided to teach myself programming as a means of transitioning into a different career path, and fell in love immediately. I began teaching myself via Codecademy and online tutorials, where I learned the fundamentals of web development.
After some time, I decided to enroll in General Assembly, a 600+ hour, 13 week coding bootcamp focused on Software Engineering. Here I learned about using modern frameworks like React, Django, and jQuery, backend frameworks like Express and React Router, and relational databases like MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
Nowadays I code in my freetime, working on different side projects and doing freelance work.
In 2013, my family purchased a vineyard in order to grow 4 varieties of wine grapes, and since then, I have been working in the viticultural industry. While it was initially a summer job while I was home from university for the summers, I eventually transitioned into a full-time managerial position, where I head viticultural development and winemaking operations.
On our vineyard, we grow Barbera, Merlot, Viognier, and Zinfandel grapes, and make 4 different varietal wines and a Rose. We have over 800 vines that I train, thin, and spray for pests weekly along with a small crew of 1-3, and come harvest, we yield about 5 tonnes of grapes.
All of our wines are hand-pressed, barrel aged in French Oak for 2 years, and bottled/labeled in house.
